About Us

GLPA-LEAD Education Fund seeks to train, support, and develop diverse leaders to effectively implement policy and manage organizations across Michigan. The organization will work to empower ordinary citizens through leadership development and civic education; educate emerging leaders on pressing local policy issues; educate emerging leaders on functions of local and state government; and, invest in collective solutions to the long-standing issues affecting the lives of residents in Michigan.

The organization’s vision is to educate community leaders on civic and policy issues, professional development, and the function of local government knowing that success is generated through empowerment of diverse local partnerships in the community.

Core Values

At the GLPA-LEAD Education Fund, we believe in these core values:

  • All of Michigan’s children deserve access to a quality and equitable public education that is adequately funded. Access to adequate education should be made available to Michigan students across all spectrums of physical, sensory, cognitive and emotional abilities, disabilities, and impairments.

  • Sexual orientation, gender recognition and expression must be recognized as inherent to identity. Individuals who identity as members of LGBTQ communities have the right to visibility and inclusion; to work, worship, and reside peacefully; and to legally form family unions including marriage.

  • We adhere to the principles of inclusiveness. We value working with diverse communities, across race, economic class, sexual orientation, and gender identities.

  • Book and resource banning is a threat to public education and is rooted in white supremacy. Students should have access to diverse, age-appropriate, books that promote equity and inclusion.

  • All people, regardless of age, have worth and can contribute to the values of an organization. We must challenge spaces that create hierarchies based on age.

  • We believe in bodily autonomy, including reproductive freedom, and work to challenge systems rooted in patriarchy or misogyny.

  • Moving towards racial justice requires changes to systematic problems and necessitates a focus on diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging
